Macri Announces the End of Populism in Argentina

Buenos Aires, November 21 (NA) -- Former President Mauricio Macri stated this Friday that the October 26 election marked the end of populism due to the triumph of La Libertad Avanza over Peronism, and considered that political expression had been reduced to a "minority".

In an interview obtained by the Argentine News Agency, the former head of state provided a political reading of the legislative elections, in which he stated that "the great change in Argentina is in the people".

"This last election showed that the people have matured," Macri summarized in an interview for the Seúl magazine.

"Many people said: 'I am not convinced of many things that are happening, but this seems like 2019 and if we go back, we will destroy everything'," the former head of state maintained.

And he predicted that the "time" for society to evaluate the libertarian government will be "in two years".

"That gives me optimism because it means that the populist discourse no longer resonates with more than an increasingly small minority: that discourse is below 30%," pointed out the head of PRO.

Macri's statements are set in a political scenario that has been reconfigured after the legislative elections, where La Libertad Avanza consolidated its weight in Congress and Peronism failed to increase its vote share.
